She's worked for numerous top media organizations around the world. It was a long time working for The Washington Post covering football, basketball, multiple Olympics and Grand Slam Tennis. Nichols was a reporter for nine years during her period with ESPN in which she won the two Emmy Awards, and featured on a number of the network's best programs like NFL Countdown and SportsCenter. The Monday Night Football coverage as the team's reporter was an integral one of the areas she worked for the network. The next step was to CNN followed by Turner Sports. The first program she developed and hosted was self-titled, Unguarded with Rachel Nichols, and aired weekly on CNN and CNN International. More than 1 billion people saw it on the air worldwide. Nichols was employed by TNT as a broadcaster, reporting on NBA games, including playoffs, regular season and All Star television broadcasts. Alongside covering for TBS and TNT, she also reported on baseball and golf broadcasts and Final Four on CBS. This is the first time in the award's 42-year-old tradition that a woman has been nominated amongst the more than 200 nominations.
